EVERY CRISIS IS
AN OPPORTUNITY
International flights have been cancelled and schools are closed until August 31st of 2020 – Colombia remains in a state of emergency. Some of the consequences for everyday life include: few exceptions to leave your home, continued strict curfews, the loss of many jobs, little financial support and the rapid growth of poverty and crime. Countless families have lost their income over night and are now unable to provide for the basic needs of their family members.
Every challenge is also an opportunity. We have put together a few impressions to let you be part of how Save a Child has continued to reach people throughout the Corona Crisis.
HUMANITARIAN AID
We are excited to experience how God is using us during this time to support families and to bring hope. Currently we are able to provide emergency food boxes filled with rice, beans, lentils, oil, sugar, flour, hygiene products etc. for about 60 families weekly. A great highlight are little surprise gifts for children which are included in every package. In several parts of the city children are not allowed to leave their houses at all and in some areas they’re allowed outside 3 times per week for no longer than 1 hour. Due to the lack of internet connection at home virtual homeschooling has been problematic.

YOUTUBE CHANNEL ONLINE!
Thanks to extra time that we have had since we are working from home, we have been able to expand and advance our online platform including a brand new youtube channel (in Spanish). Short interactive videos filled with inputs, games and Christian songs are a great way to reach children in quarantine as well as to inspire our partner churches with fun and creative ideas.
PARTNERSHIPS WITH NEW CHURCHES
For the past three years Save a Child has been developing colorfully illustrated materials that are a great tool for modern children’ ministry inside as well as outside of church walls. Biblical truths combined with exciting stories catch the childrens’ attention and motivate them to grow in their faith. Our curriculum is designed to support local churches in order to reach the next generation for Christ. During the Corona Crisis we’ve received several requests of new churches to use the materials for online streaming and the Save a Child church network is regularly expanding to new cities and countries.
